Investments for NRIs

Non Resident Indians (NRIs)/ Person of Indian Origin (PIOs) can take advantage of the growing Indian economy and the vibrant stock market by investing in mutual funds.

The mutual fund investments if made through funds brought in from overseas, which are generally parked in NRE account (Non Resident External Account), are fully repatriable both in terms of principal and returns/profit.

NRIs can also make mutual fund investments from funds earned in India like dividends, rentals, business income, etc which are generally parked in NRO Account (Non Resident Ordinary Account). NRO funds are non repatriable. These can be repatriated up to USD 1Million in a financial year as per the present RBI guidelines.

The maturity/redemption proceeds will be deposited into the same account from where the investments were initiated (NRE/NRO Account).

NRIs can also invest in PMS (Portfolio Management Scheme) as one of the investment options depending on their risk profile and suitability. They need to open a PIS Account (Portfolio Investment Scheme). However an NRI investor can have only 1 PIS Account.
